Peppermint or as its botanical name is termed Mentha Piperita is an amazing top-note essential oil with amazing benefits and a multiplicity of uses.

Peppermint is a hybrid perennial herb (a cross between Water Mint and Spearmint) from the Mediterranean that emanates a sharp, fresh, minty scent. The scent peppermint leaves is a lingering scent that invigorates the body and mind. In the present day, peppermint is now being cultivated and harvested in many other territories such as Britain, Japan and the USA. As one of the most versatile essential oil on the planet, it is extracted from the plant by way of steam distillation. This essential oil was used as far back as 1500 BC, for medicinal and culinary uses. Nowadays, it is found in many cosmetic products as well.

In Aromatherapy, peppermint has many awesome benefits. For example, it is an excellent expectorant great for relieving nasal and chest congestion. It also has properties that are invigorating and cephalic to energize the body and improve your mental clarity.

Peppermint oil gives one a warm yet cooling sensation that can be described as 'heavenly fresh' and aids with the healing of sunburn. It calms and soothes skin redness and irritation as well as refining the skin's pores given it has astringent properties. The oil helps to expel toxins allowing with skin renewal because of its sudorific properties. Peppermint stimulates the hair scalp and follicle promoting hair growth as well as it helps to combat dandruff.

Besides its medicinal and cosmetic use, the peppermint essential oil can be used in a diffuser to deodorize and sanitize the home or even office. For a freshened scent, add a few drops to your cleaning agents or laundry.

On a personal level, I used peppermint in my aromatherapy blends to address clients' concerns. I have experienced the fantastic, minty, uplifting scent using my diffuser. I have also used it in my bath to de-stress and re-energize myself.

To surmise, one can easily say that peppermint is a super powerful essential oil with exceptional properties to promote healing and wellbeing.
